Information for Australian Travellers

The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) enables nationals of certain countries (including Australia) to travel to the United States for tourism or business (visitor visa purposes) for stays of 90 days or less without obtaining a visa. Not all countries participate in the VWP, and not all travellers from VWP countries are eligible to use the program.

VWP travellers are required to apply for authorization through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA), are screened at their port of entry into the United States, and are enrolled in the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Biometric Identity Management.

For eligible travellers looking to simplify their arrival into the United States, Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP), including Global Entry®, offer a faster and more efficient entry experience.

Designed for pre-approved, low-risk travellers, Global Entry allows members to expedite processing when arriving in the U.S. through designated lanes or the Global Entry Mobile App. While Global Entry is separate from visa and ESTA requirements, membership can help streamline the entry process and reduce time spent at the airport after international travel.

New Trusted Traveler App

The new Trusted Traveler app brings key Trusted Traveler Program services together in one convenient platform. Eligible travellers can use the app to apply for Global Entry, schedule enrolment interviews once conditionally approved, update personal information and documents, and renew their membership.

For Global Entry members, the app also makes arrival even more seamless. Travellers can select their arrival airport, confirm declarations and complete a quick selfie verification before presenting their mobile confirmation receipt at customs. Members can also add up to 11 additional family members to a single arrival submission when travelling together.

Global Entry membership also includes access to TSA PreCheck®, allowing for expedited security screening on domestic flights within the United States. Available to US citizens, US lawful permanent residents and citizens of select partner countries. For more information, please visit globalentry.gov
