Portland’s newest sporting icon is a legendary dragon with a love of basketball, and a great reason for travellers to add a game to their Portland itinerary.

The Portland Fire has unveiled its official mascot, Rose, a confident, magnetic and effortlessly cool glitter-breathing dragon who embodies the spirit of Portland: bold, creative, welcoming and always ready to bring the heat.
Rose is a nod to Portland’s nickname, the Rose City. With rose-inspired scales and wings, a rose crown, a tail that lights up and custom pink Nike Air Force 1s, she’s as stylish as she is spirited. Dragons are legendary guardians, and Rose takes on that role for Portland, protecting the spirit of the city and the community that fuels it.

According to the team, Rose’s story begins long before the Fire. Hidden beneath the Rose Quarter, she became part of Portland itself, more legend than memory, stirring whenever the city came alive. When the WNBA returned to the region in 2026, she felt it deep beneath the surface and fell in love with the Portland Fire and the best fans in the WNBA. Now she’s awake, and she isn’t missing another game.
For visitors, that means a Fire game is a fun, high-energy way to experience Portland like a local. Rose is a big part of the matchday atmosphere, always ready to meet fans, pose for photos or hit the dance floor. Fans can also take home a piece of the fun with new Rose merchandise.
